Like looking into a crystal ball

A great article in the Sun about what's going on in Great Britain. Quite a few similarities between us and them, and maybe could serve as a bit of a warning to us.

Give me liberty or give me medication

A friend of mine cited a NY Times article indicating the inefficiencies of treating obesity and diabetes resulting from poor eating habits and that this was a good excuse for govt to run the heath care system and implement the "preventive" measures that would greatly decrease the money spent on the big bad rascally food companies and health care companies.

My response was that the main issue is not inefficiency. It's allowing the government to determine what is appropriate to eat given they are paying for my health care, and what is appropriate for a doctor to charge. Plus, profit is not a sin. This statement in the article is a classic example of the liberal media's desire to pit us all against each other: "There’s more money in amputating the limbs of diabetics than in counseling them on diet and exercise." Anyone knows that a decent doctor will choose amputation as a last resort - and amputations aren't all that profitable. I would rather have inefficiency and liberty, than the alternative.

"Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."

Let them Eat Tuscan Kale

"I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them." Thomas Jefferson. This just in from the Washington Post.

See Joe Wilson, he didn't lie. Yet.

I thought Joe Wilson was reprimanded for saying the President lied. But this is a perfect example why you need to be on your toes with this administration. This from the Washington Times: "President Obama said this week that his health care plan won't cover illegal immigrants, but argued that's all the more reason to legalize them and ensure they eventually do get coverage."

A Representative of All

Today I listened to a rally by Obama and it sent chills. It sounded like shades of the old despots giving their ranting speeches that in turn stirred up the emotions of the audience, and Lord knows Obama excels at this. But more than that, it dawned on me that I really didn't hear anything new - no substance. And more than that, I figured out why his poll numbers are declining as he gives these speeches.

Obama keeps referring to "they" and "them" and "those" who are getting in the way and keeping us from progressing with health care, cap and trade and all his other programs.

I think more and more Americans - whether they consider themselves Democrats, Republicans or Independents - are starting to figure out that the "they" is them when they find themselves on the opposite side of an issue.

This is unique, because pretty much to date, presidents have rallied people to their issues, and even if they knew that quite a few folks who may not have voted for them might not want something their pushing at a particular time, Americans would always be rest assured that the President was trying to look out for the people's welfare.

When a President starts demonizing one group of people because they stand in the way of his issue, this begins the decline to eventual despotism. Once the President takes the oath of office, he is a representative of all, not a champion of some.

Happy Constitution Day

I hate all of you, but I like Chinese.

I have been told today by Jimmy Carter and all the other libs that I am a racist because I disagree with the libs and Obama. So I said to myself, self, why fight it anymore. I am white, heterosexual and male, so I might as well despise all blacks, Hispanics, homosexuals, females and the French. Oh, and I won't like Jews and Muslims either. I'll hate everyone equally. But I do like Chinese. Maybe my new admission will go further to help race relations. To celebrate my new-found bigotry, I hereby share this wonderful little Monty Python ditty.

My Take on Saturday

"Make Mine Freedom"

This cartoon was produced 51 years ago and is just as relevant today as it was in 1948. From the film, this quote: "

"When anybody preached disunity, tries to pit one of us against another through class warfare, race hatred or religious intolerance, you know that person seeks to rob us of our freedom and destroy our very lives."

Adams and Jefferson

I gleaned this from a book that compiles all the letters of Adams and Jefferson, and one can get emotional reading them, especially in light of current events that will compromise what these two individuals set up.
"The general Principles, on which the Fathers Atchieved Independence, were the only Principles in which that beautiful Assembly of young Gentlemen could Unite . . . . And what were these general Principles? I answer, the general Principles of Christianity, in which all those Sects were United: And the general Principles of English and American Liberty, in which all those young Men United, and which had United all Parties in America, in Majorities sufficient to assert and maintain her Independence. Now I will avow, that I then believed, and now believe, that those general Principles of Christianity, are as eternal and immutable, as the Existence and Attributes of God; and that those Principles of Liberty, are as unalterable as human Nature and our terrestrial, mundane System. I could therefore safely say, consistently with all my then and present Information, that I believed they would never make Discoveries in contradiction to these general Principles."
John Adams to Thomas Jefferson, 1816
